artist’s bio.

Zoya is a Berlin-based filmmaker currently pursuing a BA in Film Production at Catalyst Institute for Creative Arts and Technology. With a background in fine arts, she began her creative journey as a comic artist before expanding into sculpture, animation, and DIY craft. These disciplines inform her visceral, tactile approach to filmmaking, particularly in her roles as Art Director and Production Designer.

As a queer trans woman raised in a conservative environment, Zoya’s work explores themes of identity, death, gender, systemic violence, and tenderness. Her films are deeply influenced by personal experience and offer bold, intimate perspectives on complex social realities.

Her filmmaking draws from punk, horror, queer cinema, and cinema novo; tools she uses to
disrupt and transform. Central to her work is the body as an archive and space as organism,
creating surreal and intimate worlds that invite audiences to feel what has been erased or
forgotten.
